Geodome

At Rochestown Educate Together NS we place a large emphasis on environmental learning. Part of this is linked to our Learn Together ethical curriculum, which includes Ethics and the Environment as one of the strands.

Another aspect of our school is the strong element of parental involvement. One of our parents, Eoin, had an idea about building a geodome for our school. We were granted funds from Cork County Council and a team of parents and grandparents got together on a number of weekends over the past year to measure, cut, staple, screw and glue all of the pieces together.

Last Sunday saw the culmination of the year’s work as the various pieces of the geodome were assembled. We were all delighted when the pieces fitted together at the end! A sincere thank you to all of the family members who were involved in the project, which will offer considerable learning opportunities to all of our pupils over the coming months and years.

Our Senior Infants have already made use of the geodome with their planting project. Thank you to those parents who were available to help with the children. All of our classes will have the opportunity to use the dome in the coming weeks.
